Qualified Tutor has partnered with the Charter College of Teaching, to deliver their four ‘Chartered Modules’ for QT Members. As a registered learning provider of the Chartered College, Qualified Tutor has built the ‘QT Chartered College Programme’ to support highly motivated tutors in completing these high-level enquiry-based units.

Eligibility
You must be a QT Member and a Chartered College Member to undertake this training programme.

Unit Breakdown
Professional Knowledge Award
Within the Professional Knowledge Award you will undertake three examinations:
Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) examination, which assesses knowledge of evidence-informed teaching, learning, curriculum and assessment. Objective Structured Teaching Exercise (OSTE), which is a scenario-based examination, designed to assess knowledge of formative assessment. Written examination, which is designed to assess knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies within the context of your subject, phase or specialism.

Development of Teaching Practice Award
Within the Development of Teaching Practice Award, you will undertake three examinations:
In this assessment unit, you’ll explore the development of teacher expertise. You will identify a specific aspect of your teaching that you would like to develop, reflecting upon and evaluating your current practice before engaging in cycles of deliberate practice to refine your approaches and hone your expertise in your chosen area. At the end of the unit, you will reflect on your experience and share effective practice, submitting a Developing Teaching Portfolio for formal assessment. This unit also includes free access to IRIS Connect software; a powerful professional development tool that enables you to record and reflect on your classroom practice.
Content:
This assessment unit uses a combination of guided online learning, independent self-directed study and sustained periods of classroom-based, deliberate practice.
There are around 3-4 hours of core learning content, in which you will:
- Explore research and evidence around the development of expertise
- Build your understanding of deliberate practice and how you can use this to refine and develop your teaching practice
- Consider approaches to teacher evaluation and access tools and resources that will support you in evaluating your own practice as part of the assessment.
Certificate in Evidence-Informed Practice
Within the Certificate in Evidence-Informed Practice unit, you will undertake three examinations:
In this assessment unit, you’ll explore the principles of becoming evidence-informed, where to find trustworthy research and how to navigate its use. You’ll be introduced to key education research and will consider its implications for practice. You will also have the opportunity to engage in learning related to some key areas of education debate before submitting an assessment response on a debate topic of your choice.
What will you learn?
- Engage with articles and video content from renowned experts and practising teachers, and explore wider reading lists to deepen your understanding of evidence-informed pedagogy
- Find out where to locate trustworthy research and how to navigate its use
- Consider key education research and its implications for practice in your context
Content:
The course includes around 6-8 hours of core learning content:
- Becoming evidence-informed: Locating research evidence, assessing claims, overcoming research bias, implementing ideas from research in the classroom and educational myths and misinterpretations.
- Exploring the evidence around key themes: How pupils think and learn, remembering and forgetting, pupil motivation, feedback, curriculum, effective teaching, teacher expertise, teacher retention, teacher evaluation, mentoring early career teachers and debating education.
- Exploring education debate: Cognitive science, collaborative learning, using technology and instructional coaching for teacher development.
In the assessment you will formulate a written response to one of a choice of debate questions.
Certificate in Education Research & Inquiry
Within the Certificate in Education Research & Inquiry unit, you will undertake three examinations.
In this assessment unit, you will deepen your understanding of education research as you plan and implement a small-scale inquiry project within your classroom. You will begin by identifying an aspect of classroom practice as a focus for your inquiry, developing a robust inquiry question and undertaking a comprehensive literature review that will inform your inquiry.
As you progress through the course you will build your understanding of a range of research methods, explore ethical considerations and approaches to analysing data, and will be guided through the process of planning and implementing your inquiry project. You will disseminate the findings from your project in a written report and research poster.
What will you learn?
- Learn about practitioner inquiry and how this can be utilised to support teacher professional learning and school development
- Undertake an evidence-informed inquiry project to gain deeper insights into your teaching practice, with the ultimate aim to improve outcomes for your pupils
- Have the choice and freedom to focus your inquiry on an area of classroom practice that is meaningful and relevant to you and your context
Content:
The course includes around 6-8 hours of core learning content:
- Familiarising with the process of practitioner inquiry and understanding its value to tutors
- Choosing a focus and formulating an inquiry question
- Identifying, navigating and appraising research, to support you in undertaking a comprehensive literature review to inform your inquiry
- Understanding of a range of research methods and approaches to analysing data
- Gathering and analysing data from a range of evidence sources as part of the inquiry process
- Guidance on how you can share your findings through a written report and research poster as part of the Classroom Practice
- Inquiry Project assessment.
The course includes a number of directed activities that will help to move your project forward, including searching for research as part of your literature review and completing your project planning document, but you will also need to engage in research activity that will take you some way beyond the time stated.
