How Qualified are you as a Tutor?

The QT Awards are a robust and transparent approach to evaluating tutor expertise.

These awards employ a points-based system, evaluating each tutor’s qualification and experience agains the QT values of being Safe, Skilled, and Supported. 

The three award levels are Foundation, Advanced and Mastery. Approved by tutors as a fair and accurate represnetation of tutoring skills, on average only 6% of tutors achieve QT Mastery.

The QT Awards are delivered with a supportive programme, with ample guidance and a discussion forum to access the help of peers and facilitators. The process is both growth-oriented and rigorous.

The QT Awards are designed to be inclusive of every type of tutor. Qualified Tutor caters to a diverse range of members, from part-time undergraduates to highly-experienced qualified teachers.

The QT Awards are based on QT’s International Tutoring Framework.

How Do The QT Awards Work?

The Three Criteria: Safe, Skilled & Supported

We have discovered that all tutors worldwide must be safe, skilled and supported to do their best work. It is only by having these three qualities in place that tutoring can be successful and sustainable. The QT Awards are broken down into these three categories and will ask you to reflect on your practice in each of the three areas.

We know that learning is best done with others. That’s why as a part of the QT Awards programme, you will join the QT Awards community to connect with other tutors, and our Learning and Development Team for a really supportive and stimulating experience.

What Are The Levels of the QT Awards?

The Four Levels: Foundation, Advanced, Mastery.

You will be allocated a set number of points based on how you score on each section. You will be required to submit evidence for each response.

Use these questions to really go through what you have achieved, think outside of the box and reflect on what you’ve learned and where you’ve learned it. The more evidence of your expertise you can gather, the better.

Initially, most tutors will score differently in each category. They may achieve Mastery in Skilled, Advanced in Supported but on Foundation in Safe. In this case, we can only award the tutor their lowest category score, Foundation.

What tends to happen in situations like this is that the tutor will make an effort to upgrade in the weaker areas. They might upgrade their safeguarding training, or arrange insurance. Then they can redo the QT Awards Audit and improve their score.
